Project for Inclusive School Communities

How can parents with a migration background better support their children in everyday school life – even when the school system is unfamiliar to them? Our Erasmus+ project Multischools addresses this question and has developed practical solutions for the entire school community: teachers, educators, children, and parents.

A key outcome is a free digital parent course that provides guidance on the school system, explains important terms, and supports language learning. The course covers typical everyday situations, such as starting school, communicating with teachers, handling conflicts at school, or school trips, all presented in simple language. The goal is to empower parents to actively accompany their children and feel more confident navigating the school environment. The parent course is available for all partner countries: Germany, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, and Cyprus.

Learning that connects directly to everyday life

The course combines school-related content with language learning using the Content and Language Integrated Learning approach: language is learned through relevant content rather than in isolation. This creates learning that is immediately applicable and helps parents experience themselves as capable and competent.

    Topics of the parents' course

For schools as well as for adult education providers, the course offers many possibilities. It can be used in language or integration courses, parent cafés, family centers, or school projects. The modules also provide concrete discussion points, for example on good learning conditions for children, school conflict culture, or ways parents can participate and contribute.

    Practical insights for schools

In addition to the digital course, project partners have developed further materials to support schools in becoming inclusive communities – including a self-assessment tool for schools, a certified training course for teachers, and a package of creative, inclusive activities to be used with children in lessons or after-school care.

All project results are available in English and in the partner languages.
